1989 was a year of change for World Championship Wrestling as Ted Turner had purchased the company from Jim Crockett a few month earlier.  The year started off scary for the company as their biggest faction, The Four Horsemen had just lost founding members Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson to WWE and their most popular star and booker Dusty Rhodes also went to their rival.  Despite fans fears, 1989 was an incredible year of in-ring action as Ric Flair had arguably the greatest year of his career due to a thrilling trilogy against Ricky Steamboat and a violent feud with Terry Funk.

Youngsters Sting, Lex Luger and newcomers The Great Muta, Brian Pillman, Scott Steiner and Sid Vicious all picked their games up a notch as they wanted to show the world that they were going to be the big star of the upcoming decade.
