1999 is seen by many as the beginning of the end for WCW.  Inside of the ring, the product took a dramatic dip downwards at the same time WWE was clicking on all cylinders.  Tactics that worked well at the beginning of the Monday Night War were now detriments to the company as their attempt to give spoilers of Monday Night RAW away resulted in people changing the channel from Nitro to RAW.  All of these problems led to Eric Bischoff being relieved of his duties in the company during the fall of 1999 as WCW hired away Vince Russo, the head writer for WWE.

Things didn't work out too well as Russo was relieved of the role he was hired to do after only a few months.
