A Season of Extremes

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair"…opening lines of A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens.

What's happened in your world since mid-2012, and the first exact square of Uranus-Pluto?

2015 is the last year when this crazy challenging aspect is in play.

Let's Review the Dates for Uranus-Pluto Square in signs Aries and Capricorn:

  • June 26th, 2012: 8 degrees
  • September 19 2012: 6 degrees
  • May 21 2013: 11 degrees
  • November 1 2013: 9 degrees
  • April 21 2014: 13 degrees
  • December 15 2014: 12 degrees
  • March 17 2015: 15 degrees

2015 is another year when the underpinnings are loosened, making fundamental changes possible.  And in that moment, when stretched to the limit, amazing things happen.

So whatever has been in a state of transformation, we have another go 'round with the forces that set it all off.  The final exact square is in March, but the effects linger through the year.

On the plus side, we can be sure Pluto will do a thorough, to-the-roots job of unearthing what's buried, and that includes hidden reserves of strength.  It can also help us undo conditioning that keeps us in controlled states or easily manipulated by fear.

By facing our own mortal fears, we tap a line of power, potent enough to match the moment.

And just when the walls have crumbled around us, a radical idea or opportunity pops in Uranian style.  Uranus celebrates the individual in Aries, and the courage to act on impulses that come from that pure, undomesticated sense of self.

Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) around that 15 degree get the full force of impact.  But it's fair to say it's a planetary phenomenon in which everyone potentially plays a part. Look to the house where Pluto and Uranus at 15 degrees are transiting, for a 2015 forecast note.

The Growing Edge

These mighty planetary forces clash against each other in the square aspect -- a square (90 degree angle) provokes and entirely new energy and forms are created.  What comes to mind is how the big bust ups many have experience, have freed some to discover what they really want to be doing.

An example is being fired from a job that provided some security, and having that bottom fall out, as many have.  Through the ordeal of facing fears, like very real survival fears, comes a strength that had never been tapped into before.

One way to see the pair is the agitation of Breaking Ground and Waking Up.  To wake up to power and how it works in our world, is to wake up to its influence.  And that's the beginning of remembering that each of us has an inherent right to assert our will to shape the future.  When its combined with the wisdom of keeping ancestors and those that come after in mind, that's a legacy that will live on.

So often, Pluto (in Capricorn) is describe in very worldly terms, as shaping markets, governments and institutions.  We see a kind of struggle by some powerful entities to consolidate that power through monopoly.  Meanwhile, fresh ways of "doing business" hint at a regeneration.

The marketplace is one stage for upheaval, and some of us have been personally impacted -- or have given new shape -- to how it's done.  A company or leader that wins public trust has earned something rare.  Integrity and innovation are the winning combo.

Pluto in the sign of heritage (Capricorn) has a patience and depth to it that shows us how to hang in there.  And in a Pluto transit, sometimes that means accepting what can't be changed, and letting it go.  Things are 'not the same,' and there can be grief in letting go of what has been.

In the 2015 We'Moon Calendar, Sandra Pastorius writes, "In our soul searching, Pluto reveals that within the nagging existential crisis of these times, true wisdom abides -- offering us the medicine for releasing what cannot be resolved."

That seems to me a deeply personal part of these times, the world we knew undergoes radical changes.  What's worth saving?  And what has become dead weight, and not part of the future.

If you've seen your world break apart in these last few years, 2015 could be the one that finds you emerging and brandishing your own liberated creative fire.  There's a kind of fight for the future underway -- some are private battles to persevere and carve out a brand new life.

Other struggles are playing out before our eyes, on the world stage.  It's another year to play your part, by answering the demands of these forces -- to simultaneously grow in authenticity and courage.
