Nicki Minaj Performing "The Night Is Still Young"

Nicki Minaj opened the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards performing a medley of Trini Dem Girls" and "The Night Is Still Young." The performance then segued into a collaboration with Taylor Swift on "Bad Blood." Later, Nicki Minaj returned to the stage to accept the award for "Anaconda" winning Best Hip Hop Video.

Taylor Swift earned 10 nominations for the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, the most of any artist. She took home the big award of the night Video of the Year for "Bad Blood." She helped kick off the night by performing with Nicki Minaj and including a brief segment of "Bad Blood" complete with Carnaval styled dancers.

Miley Cyrus Hosting

Miley Cyrus hosted the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards after the show went two years without a host. She earned notoriety in 2013 performing a sexually explicit version of "Blurred Lines" with Robin Thicke. For 2015, she displayed a parade of signature outlandish costumes. She won Video of the Year at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards for her #1 pop hit "Wrecking Ball." In 2013 she received four nominations for the clip accompanying "We Can't Stop."

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis Performing "Downtown"

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis performed their new single "Downtown" on the streets of downtown Los Angeles at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. The production also featured legendary rappers Kool Moe Dee and Melle Mel of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis won three awards at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards ceremony.

The Weeknd Performing "Can't Feel My Face"

The Weeknd celebrated his breakout pop success performing live at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. He delivered a version of the #1 hit "Can't Feel My Face" accompanied by a massive pyrotechnic display. He is also currently in the top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 with the song "The Hills."

Justin Bieber Performing "What Do You Mean"

Justin Bieber made a big return to live television performing both the hit single "Where Are U Now" where he is featured performer with Skrillex and Diplo and his new solo release "What Do You Mean" at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. His performance helped to boost sales with the new song sitting at #1 on the iTunes sales chart following his appearance at the awards.

Kanye West's Speech

Kanye West delivered a somewhat rambling, sprawling speech in accepting the MTV Video Vanguard lifetime achievement award. He expressed his emotions following the notorious moment in which he took the microphone away from Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. He also expressed that he will die for art, "And the art ain't always gonna be polite." He concluded by saying that he would run for President in 2020.

Demi Lovato delivered a live performance of her summer hit single "Cool For the Summer" outdoors at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. Accompanied by a massive amount of confetti and streamers, she was joined by surprise guest rapper Iggy Azalea. This was Demi Lovato's first live performance at the MTV VMAs.

Twenty One Pilots with A$AP Rocky Performing "HeavyDirtySoul"

Alternative pop/rock duo Twenty One Pilots took the stage at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards with rapper A$AP Rocky. Their music blends rock, hip hop, pop, and reggae. Earlier in 2015 Twenty One Pilots hit #1 on the album chart with their collection Blurryface. It included the #2 alternative radio hit "Tear In My Heart." Three of the songs from the album also reached the Billboard Hot 100.

Miley Cyrus Performing "Dooo It!"

The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards closed with a previously unannounced live performance by host Miley Cyrus. She also announced the release of her new album Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz for free. She gave a colorful performance of the album's lead song "Dooo It!" accompanied by drag queens from the hit TV show RuPaul's Drag Race. Joining her onstage was Flaming Lips leader and mentor Wayne Coyne.
