The 2018 Ryder Cup Golf Course

Le Golf National is located in the Paris suburbs and opened in 1990.

It is the usual home venue of the European Tour's French Open tournament.

This will mark just the second time a Ryder Cup takes place in Continental Europe (the first was at Valderrama in Spain in 1997).

2018 Ryder Cup Format

The Ryder Cup format goes like this:

  • Day 1: Four foursomes matches, four fourball matches (order determined by host captain)
  • Day 2: Four foursomes, four fourballs
  • Day 3: Twelve singles matches

See the FAQ, "What is the Ryder Cup format?" for more details about the typical schedule of play.

2018 Captains

The Team USA captain is yet to be announced.

Team Europe's captain is Thomas Bjorn, who is now the first Dane to captain a Ryder Cup squad after having previously been the first Dane to play in a Ryder Cup. Bjorn played in three Ryder Cups and served as a European vice-captain in four others. Bjorn's playing appearances were in 1997, 2002 and 2014, all wins for Team Europe.

Team Selection for 2018 Ryder Cup

Both Team USA and Team Europe will select 12-man squads, each side combining automatic selection via points lists with captain's picks.

See our FAQ, "How are players selected for the Ryder Cup?" for details of the current selection process.

At the 2016 Ryder Cup, Team USA chose eight golfers via automatic selection and four through captain's picks. Team Europe selected nine golfers via points lists and three golfers through wildcard picks.

It is up to the PGA of America for Team USA and the European Tour for Team Europe to set their own selection guidelines, however, so those specifics may change prior to 2018.
