Even though New Mexico doesn't have all that many four-year colleges and universities, the state does offer a diversity of school types. You can choose from large state universities or small liberal arts colleges, and the admissions standards vary considerably. Some schools are selective while others have open admissions.

The table above can help you figure out if your ACT scores are on target for admission to your top choice New Mexico colleges. The table shows scores for the middle 50% of enrolled students. If your scores are within or above these ranges, you're in a good position for admission. If your scores are a little below the bottom number, don't worry too much -- 25% of matriculated students have scores below those listed.

Keep in mind that a strong academic record typically carries more weight than standardized test scores. Also, some of the more selective schools will look at qualitative measures and want to see a winning essay, meaningful extracurricular activities and good letters of recommendation.
