Discussion of Albion College's Admissions Standards: Roughly three-quarters of all applicants will be admitted to Albion College. In the graph above, green and blue dots represent accepted students. You can see that the majority of admitted students had a GPA of a B or higher, an SAT score (RW + M) above 1000, and an ACT composite score of 20 or higher. The college does enroll a significant percentage of strong students who have GPAs up in the "A" range and standardized test scores that are well above average. You'll notice a few red dots (rejected students) mixed in with the green and blue -- a few students who seemed to be on target for Albion did not get in. At the same time, a number of students were accepted with test scores and grades a bit below the norm. This is because Albion College has holistic admissions, so the admissions officers are looking at much more than numerical measures. A winning essay, strong letters of recommendation, and interesting extracurricular activities all contribute to a successful application. Albion's supplement to the Common Application also encourages applicants to explain why they are applying to Albion, what relatives have attended, and answer the question, "Who are you?" Clearly creativity, demonstrated interest, and legacy status can all play a role in the admissions decision.
