Updated April 25, 2018 Alfred University admissions are moderately selective, and roughly one-third of applicants will not get in. Successful applicants tend to have grades and SAT scores that are average or better. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent students who won admission. Most had SAT scores of 1000 or higher (RW + M), an ACT composite of 20 or higher, and a high school average in the "B" range or higher. Students with strong grades and test scores may qualify for the university's Honors Program. Alfred University's Admissions Standards You can see that there are a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) overlapping with the green and blue in the middle of the graph, and that some admitted students had grades and test scores below the norm. This is because Alfred University makes decisions based on more than numbers. Alfred University uses the Common Application and has holistic admissions. The admissions folks will be looking for a strong application essay, meaningful extracurricular activities, and positive letters of recommendation. Also, Alfred University takes into consideration the rigor of your high school courses, not just your grades. AP, IB, and Honors classes are all viewed positively. Also, doing an optional interview can help since it gives the admissions folks a fuller portrait of your personality and helps demonstrate your interest. Finally, realize that the different colleges at Alfred have different admissions standards. Engineering students will need to demonstrate a higher level of math proficiency than general applicants, and art students will need to submit a portfolio.
