Trent Harmon

25-year-old Trent Harmon is a native of the northeastern Mississippi small town of Amory. He has been singing since age 5 when his mother taught him how to sing "Amazing Grace." He is a multi-instrumentalist playing drums, guitar, and piano. Trent Harmon is a graduate of the University of Arkansas - Monticello having majored in music and history. He claims Elvis Presley as a primary musical influence. Before his 15th season American Idol audition he was working at his family's restaurant.

Trent Harmon tried out for The Voice in 2014, but he did not make it past the auditions. He has said a primary difference between the shows in the auditions phase is The Voice asks already developed singers to audition while American Idol chooses from open casting calls and aims to develop the artists on the show.

Dalton Rappatoni

20-year-old Dalton Rappatoni grew up in the north Texas town of Sunnyvale on the outskirts of Dallas. He began playing guitar when he was 11 and he writes many of his own songs. Before American Idol he was working as a vocal coach at the local School of Rock.

Dalton Rappatoni joined the boy band IM5 in 2012 but left in 2014. The group was a joint project of American Idol creator Simon Fuller, Jamie King, creative director for Madonna, and Perez Hilton. After leaving IM5, Dalton Rappatoni rejoined the band Fly Away Hero with childhood best friend Hunter Knoche. They have released an EP titled Lost and Found recorded with producer Matt Noveskey from the band Blue October. It climbed into the top 20 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart.

Mackenzie Bourg

23-year-old Mackenzie Bourg is a native of the central Louisiana city of Lafayette. He has given credit to his St. Thomas More high school basketball coach Danny Broussard for helping jumpstart his music career after the coach discovered his young player singing for his teammates at a summer basketball camp in Florida. Mackenzie Bourg has also battled through a life threatening illness from a virus in recent years.

Mackenzie Bourg participated in season 3 of The Voice on Cee Lo Green's team and won in the knockout round but was eliminated during the live playoffs. He sang songs such as "Pumped Up Kicks" and "Call Me Maybe." At one point Adam Levine, of Maroon 5, referred to Mackenzie Bourg as, "an American idol." His single "Everyone's Got a Story" released in 2013 broke into the top 60 of the iTunes sales chart. He is a songwriter.

La'Porsha Renae

21-year-old LaPporsha Renae grew up in the southern Mississippi town of McComb. She has been singing since age 6 and auditioned for American Idol when she was 16 but failed to make it to Hollywood. La'Porsha Renae is a mother who has escaped an abusive domestic relationship in the past.  She has given credit to high school teacher Angelia Johnson for helping motivate her in developing her unique personal style.

La'Porsha Renae relocated to California from Mississippi to pursue her career in music. Her duet with former winner Fantasia on American Idol singing the song "Summertime" has been celebrated as one of the top moments of the season.

Sonika Vaid

20-year-old Sonika Vaid grew up in the Boston, Massachusetts suburb of Weston. She began singing at age 3 and playing the piano at age 4. She credits her grandfather as a primary musical inspiration. He was a self-taught singer who then taught Sonika's mother Ananya to sing and play the harmonium. Sonika Vaid first performed live when she was in sixth grade and her mother joined her onstage to keep her nervous daughter from backing out.

Sonika Vaid reached the blind auditions in season 4 of The Voice, but she failed to have any judges turn their chairs. She has made history as the first performer of South Asian ancestry to make it to the final 5 on American Idol. Her parents moved to the US from India at young ages.
