The French verb arriver means "to arrive" and is a regular -er verb. The conjugation pattern is easy to follow.

How to Conjugate the French Verb Arriver

To conjugate a regular -er verb, you remove the -er from the infinitive to get the stem (arriv-) and add the ending that matches the subject pronoun and the tense you want to use.

How to Use Arriver in the Past Tense

While the passé composé is a compound tense, it's important to go over, as it's the typical way to use the past tense. To form it, you have to know which auxiliary verb to use and a verb's past participle. For arriver, the auxiliary verb is être and the past participle is arrivé. 

For example:

Vous êtes arrivé trop tard.
You arrived too late.

Il est arrivé avec sa soeur.
He arrived with his sister.
