Many people find it unnerving to be left alone. There are far too many uncomfortable dimensions to the solitude. For instance, assume you are left alone with your thoughts. Now, unless you are a positive thinker, you might end up feeling depressed about your state of aloneness. Moreover, you will tend to overanalyze every situation. If you have had a quarrel with a friend, you might end up reading more into the spat than reasonable.

If someone made a witty remark about you, your mind could play havoc creating demons of your own imagination. Ever heard the proverb, "Idle mind is a devil's workshop?" Well, there is a lot of truth to that, and you get a lot of idle time when you are alone.

Being Alone Can Be a Blessing in Disguise

On the other hand, some people prefer their own company. As a famous actress and social worker Audrey Hepburn said, "I don't want to be alone, I want to be left alone." Probably for an actress who is constantly hounded by media and fans, "alone time'" is a blessing. It gives a person an opportunity to recuperate emotionally and be introspective about life's little blessings.

How to Cope With Loneliness

Famous novelist Richard Yates wrote in his book  "Revolutionary Road": "If you wanted to do something absolutely honest, something true, it always turned out to be a thing that had to be done alone."

Think about that. Do you want to achieve your goals? Are you ambitious enough to scale heights in your academic or work career? It helps to be alone when you have great plans for the future. Being alone doesn't seem like a desirable option, but it often helps unclog your mind. Spend a few minutes alone, away from maddening crowds, and delve deep into your soul.

As you drift into the chasms of your thoughts, you will find harmony with the world. These "alone" quotes bring out the murmurs of your heart.
