Beverly Oden is a former writer for ThoughtCo, contributing articles for five years. She began playing volleyball at 13 and led Irvine High School to back-to-back California State Championships. At Stanford University she was NCAA player of the year in 1990 and won an NCAA title her senior year in 1992. She graduated with a degree in psychology and played full time for the USA Volleyball team.
Oden was starting middle blocker along with her sister Elaina for the Atlanta Olympics. She later played beach volleyball on the Bud Light 4-Person Pro Tour and was named Rookie of the Year. After retiring from volleyball, Beverly has worked as a reporter for Sports Illustrated and local and national news programs, as an associate producer for Fox Sports, and in production for independent documentary films
Beverly Oden earned an undergraduate degree in psychology from Stanford in 1993 and a master's degree in journalism with an emphasis on documentary film from the University of California, Berkeley, in 2001.
