Parentage of Guru Har Rai:

Mata Nihal Kaur, the revered mother of Guru Har Rai, also went by the name of Ananti, or Natti. Her husband Baba Gur Ditta, the father of Har Rai, was the eldest son of Mata Damodri ji and Sixth Guru Har Govind of the Sodhi lineage.

Birthdate of Guru Har Rai:

The birth of Guru Har Rai took place on the thirteenth day of the waxing moon, during Sudi, the light half of the lunar month Magh, during the Sambat Vikram (S.V.) year of 1687, which corresponds to January 16, 1630 A.D.

and is observed on January 31st of the Nanashahi Calendar.

Birthplace of Guru Har Rai:

The Birthplace of Har Rai, the seventh Guru of the Sikhs is commemorated by Gurdwara Shish Mahal of Kiratpur formerly of District Hoshiarpur, which is the modern day Ropar District of Panjab. Kiratpur is located on the banks of the river Sutlej and is home to ten historic gurdwaras:

  • Gurdwara Patal Puri - Cremation site of Sixth Guru Har Govind, and Seventh Guru Har Rai and immersion site of Eighth Guru Har Krishan ji's ashes in to River Sutlej.
  • Gurdwara Charan Kamal - Meeting site of Muslim saint believed to have lived 800 years, Pir Buddan Shaj and Guru Nanak on the first guru's fourth udasi mission tour.
  • Gurdwara Shish Mahal - Home of Sixth Guru Har Govind and his son Baba Gurditta¬† as well as birthplace of both Seventh Guru Har Rai and his children Ram Rai, Sarup Kaur and Eighth Guru Har Krishan.
  • Gurdwara Damadama - Preaching site.
  • Gurdwara Sri Takhat Sahib - Inaugural site of both Guru Har Govind and Guru Har Rai
  • Gurdwara Harmandir Sahib - Garden site of Guru Har Govind.
  • Gurdwara Manji Sahib - Construction site of home belonging to Bibi Veero daughter of Guru Har Govind.
  • Gurdwara Babaan Garh - Severed head of martyred Ninth Guru Teg Bahadar carried here.
