Brette has written for many, many publications in her 20+ year career as a writer, including Forbes, LegalZoom, Quicken Loans, Next Avenue, Huffington Post, and Woman’s Day. She is the site expert for and is the author of many books about divorce, family law, and mediation. In addition to writing for consumer publications, she also frequently works as a ghostwriter for law firm web sites and blogs. 

Sember practiced as a divorce and family lawyer and mediator in New York State and has been a full-time writer for more than 20 years. She currently works as a freelancer, content producer, editor, ghostwriter, book coach, fact-checker, and book indexer. 


She graduated magna cum laude from University at Buffalo with a Bachelor of Arts in English with an emphasis on poetry and short stories and then obtained a J.D. She passed the bar in New York State and obtained a certification as a Law Guardian and in divorce mediation. Sember is a Ben Franklin Award finalist, the recipient of a Mothers at Home Media Award, and of a Parenting Publications of America Bronze Award.
