Brooks Mitchell is a science educator, writer and naturalist based out of Atlanta, Ga.
Over the past several years, Brooks has used his training in geology to create educational curricula, interactive exhibits and interpretive panels for numerous museums and scientific institutions throughout the southeast. Although he specializes in geology, he has experience developing paleontology, marine biology and anthropology-based content as well. Brooks is an active member of the Atlanta Geological Society and has been featured on CNN Newsroom with Brooke Baldwin. You can view his LinkedIn profile here.
Brooks earned his bachelor’s in geology (with a minor in anthropology) from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Al.
One of my favorite things about the discipline of geology is that it not only examines some of society’s biggest issues, including natural disasters, climate change and resource availability, but it can also offer solutions to these challenges. It’s a fascinating subject that covers the Earth’s 4.5 billion year history and the processes by which it changes in the present.
In my work as an educator, I specialize in teaching what can be a complex subject to adults and children alike in an age appropriate manner. As the Geology Expert for About.com, it is my goal to continue learning so that I can pass more knowledge along to you all! When I’m not learning about geology or sharing my knowledge, you might find me running along the many trails of north Georgia, enjoying the beautiful igneous and metamorphic outcrops that make up our region.
