Discussion of Butler's Admissions Standards: Roughly one third of all applicants to Butler University will not be admitted, and successful applicants tend to have grades and standardized test scores that are above average. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. Most successful applicants had high school averages of "B+" or higher, combined SAT scores of 1100 or higher, and ACT composite scores of 22 or better. Your chances are best of your numbers are a bit higher than these lower ranges. Many Butler students had high school GPAs up in the "A" range. You'll notice that in the middle of the graph there are a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue. Some students with grades and test scores that were on target for Butler University did not get in. The opposite is also true -- some students were admitted with grades and test scores that were below the norm. This is because Butler's admissions process is holistic. The college accepts the Common Application, and the admissions folks will want to see a strong personal statement and meaningful involvement in extracurricular activities. Butler will also be looking to see that you have taken challenging college preparatory classes and that your grades have been trending in a positive direction.
