Discussion of Canisius College's Admissions Standards: In 2015, 87% of applicants to Canisius College were admitted, but even with this high acceptance rate, successful applicants tend to have grades and standardized test scores that are above average. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent students who were accepted. Most had SAT scores (RW+M) of 950 or higher, an ACT composite of 18 or higher, and a high school average of a "B" or better. Your chances will be better if your grades and test scores are above these lower ranges, and you can see that many accepted students had solid "A" averages in high school. That said, you'll also notice that a few students got in with grades and test scores below the norm. This is because Canisius College has holistic admissions and makes decisions based on more than numbers. The college doesn't believe that numerical data alone can measure a candidate's potential. Whether you use the Canisius College application or the Common Application, the admissions folks will be looking for a strong application essay, meaningful extracurricular activities, and positive letters of recommendation. Also, Canisius College takes into consideration the rigor of your high school courses, not just your grades. AP, IB, and Dual Enrollment classes can all work in your favor, The Canisius admissions website states that the "Admissions Committee looks for students with above average achievement in a college preparatory program of study." And as with many colleges, prospective applicants would be wise to visit campus. On weekdays you can meet one-on-one with an admissions counselor. Such meetings help you make a more informed decision, and it also helps demonstrate interest in the college.
