Discussion of Case Western Reserve's Admissions Standards:

Roughly two in three applicants to Case Western Reserve University will be rejected, and those who get in tend to have standardized test scores and high school grades that are significantly above average. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. You can see that the majority of successful applicants had high school grades in the "A" range, combined SAT scores of 1250 or higher, and ACT composite scores of 26 or better. Your chances of receiving an acceptance letter will be much higher if your grades and test scores are above these lower ranges. Many accepted students had impressive 4.0 GPAs.

Note that there are quite a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue in all but the upper right corner of the graph. Many students with grades and test scores that were on target for Case Western Reserve did not win admission. On the flip side, note that a few students were accepted with test scores and grades a bit below the norm. This is because Case Western's admissions process is not just quantitative. The university uses the Common Application and has a holistic admissions process. Case Western's admissions officers will want to see that you have taken rigorous high school courses, not courses that get you an easy "A." Also, they will be looking for a winning essay, interesting extracurricular activities, an engaging short answer, and strong letters of recommendation. You can strengthen your application further if you submit good SAT Subject Test scores, and if you do an optional interview.
