Discussion of Centre College's Admissions Standards:

Centre College in Danville, Kentucky, has selective admissions. About a third of all applicants will not get in, and those who are admitted tend to have above average grades and standardized test scores. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent students who won admission. Most had SAT scores of 1170 or higher, an ACT composite of 24 or higher, and a high school average of a "B+" or better. The majority of applicants had grades up in the "A" range.

Note that there are a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) overlapping with the green and blue in the middle of the graph. Some students with grades and test scores that were potentially on target for Centre College did not get in. You can also see that a few students with less-than-ideal scores and grades were admitted. This is because Centre College makes decisions based on more than numbers. Centre College is a member of the Common Application, and whether you use the Common App or Centre's own application, the admissions folks will be looking for a strong application essay, meaningful extracurricular activities, and positive letters of recommendation. Also, Centre College takes into consideration the rigor of your high school courses, not just your grades, so those AP and IB courses can be important. Finally, you can further strengthen your application by doing an optional interview, and Centre gives students the opportunity to send in creative work as well.
