Discussion of City Tech's Admissions Standards: City Tech offers a roughly equal number of 2-year and 4-year degrees, and the school takes pride in the diversity of its student body. The bar for admissions isn't overly high, and most hard working students with a high school diploma should have a good chance of receiving an acceptance letter. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent students who were admitted. Most had SAT scores (RW+M) of 800 or higher, an ACT composite of 14 or higher, and a high school average of a "C" or higher. The academic accomplishments of admitted students vary widely, and you'll notice that the university has its share of "A" students. Standardized test scores are optional, but they may be used for demonstrating English and Math proficiency. Note that there are a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue throughout the graph. Chances are that these applicants somehow failed to fulfill admission requirements. They may have had incomplete applications, missing core coursework, or a problematic criminal history. City Tech has les rigorous admissions standards than some of the other CUNY campuses, but the admissions process uses the same CUNY application and holistic admissions process. Your grades and standardized test scores will carry a lot of weight, and you'll impress the school if you have a rigorous high school curriculum with Honors, AP, IB, or Dual-Enrollment classes. But the university looks for potential in students that may not reveal itself through numerical measures, so both your application essay and letters of recommendation can improve your chances of being admitted.
