Discussion of Claremont McKenna's Admissions Standards:

With an acceptance rate of just 11% in 2015, Claremont McKenna College is one of the country's most selective colleges. To get in, you're going to need grades and standardized test scores that are well above average. In the scattergram above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. You can see that the majority of successful applicants had "A" averages, SAT scores of about 1350 or higher (RW+M), and ACT composite scores of 29 or higher. The higher those numbers, the better your chances of receiving an acceptance letter.

Note that there are many red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) hidden behind the green and blue of the graph. Many students with grades and test scores that were on target for Claremont McKenna did not get accepted. Note also that a few students were accepted with test scores and grades a little bit below the norm. This is because Claremont McKenna uses The Common Application and has holistic admissions. The admissions folks take into consideration the rigor of your high school courses, your application essay, extracurricular activities, and letters of recommendation.
