Cobra Golf has announced three new sets of irons that are ready for shipping beginning in September, 2006.

The three sets are the King Cobra S9 Irons, King Cobra FP Irons and King Cobra Carbon CB Irons. Each is designed for a different type of golfer.

"With the debut of these three iron models, we now have an iron that meets the needs of every player type," said Jeff Harmet, President or Cobra Golf, in a company news release.

Here's a brief look at each of the new irons:

King Cobra S9 Irons
"S9" stands for "sweet nine," and the company calls this its "most technologically advanced iron line to date."

"Sweet nine" is a reference to the "9 Accurate Points" across the clubface, a design approach that Cobra says ensures maximum forgiveness. The King Cobra S9 Irons are geared to the golfer seeking a maximum game-improvement iron.

These irons feature a wide sole, low profile and undercut cavity design to promote high launch with maximum forgiveness. A polymer topline and urethane sole insert save weight in those two areas, and along with a back cavity plate promote a softer feel.

The stock shafts are the Cobra/Graphite Design YS-5.1 in graphite and Cobra/Nippon Pro 900 XH in steel; and the stock grip is Cobra/Golf Pride Tour Velvet 50D. These irons (4-GW) carry an MSRP of $720 per set with steel shafts and $960 per set with graphite shafts.

King Cobra Carbon CB Irons
The King Cobra Carbon CB Irons are made with 8620 Carbon Steel with a cavity back design. These irons are Cobra's set geared to the serious golfer seeking elements preferred by skilled players.

These irons come with a thin topline and classic profile, plus minimal offset. The carbon steel head and a back cavity plate promote enhanced feedback and soft feel.

The stock shaft is True Temper Dynamic Gold S300 steel, and stock grip the Cobra/Golf Pride Tour Velvet Round 50D. These irons carry an MSRP of $840 per set.

King Cobra FP Irons
The King Cobra FP Irons fall in-between the S9 and Carbon CB on the playability scale. "FP" stands for "forgiveness and playability."

These feature a mid-width sole and undercut cavity design for more perimeter weighting to help in creating a higher launch and more forgivenss. A urethane sole insert and back cavity plate are intended to soften the feel.

The stock shafts are the Cobra/Aldila NV-HL 70 in graphite and Cobra/Nippon NS Pro 1030H in steel; and the stock grip the Cobra/Golf Pride Tour Velvet 50D. MSRP for the set (4-GW) is $600 with steel shafts and $720 with graphite.
