Students are required to submit scores from the SAT or ACT--both are accepted equally. Students can apply through the Common Application, and must also submit a personal essay, high school transcripts, and a letter of recommendation. A campus visit is not required, but is strongly encouraged for interested students. Students come from 30 states and 40 countries. Outdoor lovers will find skiing, hiking, biking, and river sport opportunities in the nearby area. The college was founded in 1891 by Presbyterians, and today the college identifies itself as a non-sectarian, church-related college. College of Idaho students can choose from 26 majors and 55 minors through the school's PEAK curriculum. PEAK (professional, ethical, articulate, knowledgeable) allows students to have specialization in four academic fields -- one major, and three minors. In general the curriculum has greater flexibility and a bit more focus on depth than the majority of liberal arts colleges. Academic programs are supported by a 12 to 1 student / faculty ratio and an average class size of 11. On the athletic front, the College of Idaho fields nine women's and eight men's intercollegiate teams. The Coyotes compete in the NAIA Cascade Collegiate Conference for most sports. Popular sports include football, basketball, baseball, softball, swimming, and track and field.
