Discussion of Colorado College's Admissions Standards:

Admission to Colorado College is highly selective, and fewer than a quarter of all applicants will be admitted. To get in, you're going to need an academic record that is well above average. In the scattergram above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. You can see that the majority of successful applicants had "A" averages, SAT scores of about 1300 or higher, and ACT composite scores of 27 or higher. The higher your grades, the better your chances of receiving an acceptance letter. Over half of all Colorado College applicants were ranked in the top 5% of their graduating class. If your SAT and ACT scores aren't competitive for Colorado College, realize that the college has a "flexible testing" policy and you can substitute other verbal/writing and quantitative exams for the SAT and ACT.

Note that there are many red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) hidden behind the green and blue throughout the graph. Many students with grades and test scores that were on target for Colorado College did not get accepted. Note also that a few students were accepted with test scores and grades a little bit below the norm. This is because Colorado uses The Common Application and has holistic admissions. The admissions folks take into consideration the rigor of your high school courses, your application essay, extracurricular activities, and letters of recommendation. Students would also be wise to take advantage of the optional interview offered by the college.
