If you haven't heard of Colorado Mesa University, it's because the school changed its name from Mesa State College in August of 2011. Colorado Mesa is a regional public university that offers a wide range of associate, bachelor and master degree programs. The main campus sits on 78 acres in Grand Junction, Colorado. Grand Junction is also home to Western Colorado Community College, a two-year college governed by Colorado Mesa. Colorado Mesa has a branch campus in Montrose as well as evening, online and distance programs for non-traditional students.

The Grand Junction location gives outdoor lovers easy access to area skiing, hiking, climbing, caving, fishing, camping and rafting. On the academic front, professional fields in business, nursing, and exercise science are most popular among undergraduates. Academics are supported by a 23 to 1 student / faculty ratio.

Student life is active with over 90 clubs and organizations. In athletics, the Colorado Mesa Mavericks compete in the NCAA Division II Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The university fields thirteen men's and thirteen women's intercollegiate sports. The university also has many intramural and club sports.
