You want to create a presentation in a hurry using the color scheme and formatting of another presentation, such as your company’s own design template complete with company colors and logo.

If you have an existing PowerPoint presentation that uses the design template you want, it is a simple process to copy the slide master design, complete with fonts, colors, and graphics, to a new presentation.

You do this by first opening the presentation that contains the design template you want to copy and also opening the new presentation, so you have two open presentations.

Copying a Slide Master in PowerPoint 2013 and 2016

Copying a slide master in PowerPoint 2013 and PowerPoint 2016 is simple:

  1. With both presentations open, click on the View tab of the presentation that contains the slide master you want to copy from and select Slide Master
  2. In the slide thumbnail pane at the left of the screen, right-click on the slide master and select Copy. (In the pane, the slide master is the larger thumbnail image. Some presentations contain more than one slide master.)
  3. On the View tab, click Switch Windows and choose the new presentation you want to paste the slide master into.
  4. On the View tab of the new presentation, click Slide Master and click Keep Source Formatting to use the theme colors, fonts, and effects of the presentation you copied the slide master from.
  5. Click Close Master View.

Important Note: Changes made to individual slides in the original presentation such as font styles, do not change the design template of that presentation. Therefore, graphic objects or font changes added to individual slides do not copy over to a new presentation.
