Founded in 1941 as the Baptist Bible Institute of Grand Rapids, Cornerstone still places service to Christ and a literal interpretation of the Bible at the heart of the college experience. There are several worship services throughout the week, and students take part in Bible study sessions. Students can lead or join small group ministries, and can join mission trips and service projects as well. Undergraduates can chose from 46 academic programs with business being the most popular. There are also a number of graduate degrees available, as well as a seminary program. The university has a 16 to 1 student / faculty ratio and an average class size of 20. Cornerstone has been awarded several distinctions in recent years, including one of the "Top 50 Faith Based MBA Programs" and "One of the Most Affordable Christian College in the US". Grand Rapids--a city of about 180,000--is a great place for students to explore. The campus is only about ten minutes from downtown; there are plenty of museums, theaters, and other attractions to enjoy. In addition to academics, Cornerstone has a variety of extracurricular activities available for students. There are social justice groups, religious meetings and lectures, service projects, and arts and music clubs. Students also have the chance to study abroad, or to enroll in mission trips to travel around the world. On the athletic front, the Cornerstone Golden Eagles compete in the NAIA Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.
