Most of Asia is in the northern and eastern hemispheres and shares its landmass with Europe; together they make up Eurasia. The continent covers about 8.6 percent of the Earth's surface and represents about one-third of its land mass. Asia has a varied topography that consists of the world's highest mountains, the Himalayas, as well as some of the lowest elevations on Earth.Asia is made up of 48 different countries, and as such, it is a diverse mix of people, cultures, and governments.
