Discussion of Brooklyn College's Admissions Standards:

Because of its high number of applications, CUNY Brooklyn admits roughly a third of all applicants. Successful applicants will need solid grades and standardized test scores, and the majority of successful applicants are above average. In the scattergram above, the blue and green dots represent students who won admission. Most had SAT scores of 1000 or higher (RW+M), an ACT composite of 20 or higher, and a high school average of a "B" or higher. The graph also shows that having standardized test scores above this lower range improves your chances of getting in.

Note that there are a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue in the middle of the graph. Some students with grades and test scores that were on target for Brooklyn College did not get get in. Note also that a few students were accepted with test scores and grades a bit below the norm. This is because Brooklyn College has holistic admissions. To quote the college's admissions website, "As we consider each applicant, we also look beyond the classroom. Extracurricular accomplishments, special talents and awards in particular fields along with academic achievements in light of life experiences or special circumstances are weighed to determine a student’s potential for success at CUNY." Successful applicants will need a strong application essay, meaningful extracurricular activities, and positive letters of recommendation.
