Dan Moffett is a former writer for ThoughtCo who contributed articles on immigration for over four and a half years. He is a professional journalist who writes extensively on immigration issues and has covered immigration stories around the world—from Dublin to Havana, Sydney to San Francisco, La Paz to New York, and places in between.
The first immigrant in Dan's life was his grandfather, Patrick James McKay, who left Ireland on a steamship and arrived at Ellis Island shortly after World War I. Stories of immigrants' remarkable struggles and contributions to the American experience have captivated Dan since childhood.
Dan wrote for daily newspapers in three states over the years, including The Palm Beach Post in Florida, where he served as a member of the paper's editorial board. He has won national and regional awards for his reporting and commentary, including the National Sigma Delta Chi Award for editorial writing in 2000, and the Green Eyeshade Award from the Society of Professional Journalists.
Dan holds a B.A. in journalism and English from Ashland University.
