Discussion of Davidson's Admissions Standards:

You're going to need to be a good student to get into Davidson College. Only about one in four applicants receive an acceptance letter, and the students who do get in tend to have standardized test scores and high school grades that are significantly above average. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. As the data show, the majority of successful applicants had high school GPAs in the "A" range, combined SAT scores of 1300 or higher (RW+M), and ACT composite scores of 28 or better. A lot of accepted students had impressive 4.0 GPAs.

Note that there are many red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue throughout the graph. Many students with grades and test scores that were on target for Davidson College did not win admission. On the flip side, note that a few students were accepted with test scores and grades a bit below the norm. This is because Davidson's admissions process is holistic. The college uses the Common Application and will be looking at much more than numerical data. The admissions folks will want to see that you have taken rigorous high school courses, not courses that get you an easy "A." Also, they will be looking for a winning essay, interesting extracurricular activities, an engaging short answer, and strong letters of recommendation. Davidson also asks for two supplemental essays and a peer recommendation. Davidson does not offer evaluative interviews.
