Delta State students come from 49 states and 23 countries, and undergraduates can choose from 38 majors. Established as a teacher's college in 1924, Delta State still excels in teacher preparation, but business, natural science, health science, and social sciences fields are all popular among undergraduates. At the master's degree level, nursing, education and business have the highest enrollments. Academics are supported by a healthy 14 to 1 student / faculty ratio, and the university prides itself on the meaningful interactions between students and their professors. Student life is active with over 100 clubs and organizations and 25 intramural sports. On the varsity front, the DSU Statesmen compete in the NCAA Division II Gulf South Conference. The university fields seven men's and six women's intercollegiate sports. And my favorite Delta State fact: the student-adopted mascot is the Fighting Okra.
