Dixie began her career as a needlework designer and was one of the first to use a computer to create counted cross stitch and needlepoint charts. Her artistic skills combined with her computer savvy laid the groundwork for her career in graphic design and digital art.

Dixie previously served as a professor of graphic design and digital art at the Savannah College of Art and Design and the University of South Carolina. She is currently a freelancer working on design projects, digital art, and painting.

Dixie Allan has a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree and has taken advanced courses in digital printing, scanning, and Adobe Creative Suite.
