Spanish Verb Ducharse Conjugation

The Spanish verb ducharse is a reflexive verb that means to shower or to take a shower. In the tables below you will find ducharse conjugations in the present, past and future indicative, the present and past subjunctive, the imperative, and other verb forms.

Using Duchar or Ducharse 

The verb duchar can be used as a transitive, non-reflexive verb to talk about giving someone a shower, as in La madre ducha al niño (The mom showers the boy). However, this verb is more commonly used reflexively as ducharse to talk about giving yourself a shower. For example, El hombre se ducha todas las mañanas (The man takes a shower every morning). Another way to talk about taking a shower in Spanish would be darse una ducha, which literally means to give oneself a shower, as in El chico se da una ducha después de la escuela (The boy takes a shower after school).

Ducharse Present Indicative

When conjugating a reflexive verb, you must include the corresponding reflexive pronoun (me, te, se, nos, os, se) before the verb.

Ducharse Preterite Indicative

There are two past tenses in Spanish. The preterite is used to talk about completed actions in the past.

Ducharse Imperfect Indicative

The imperfect is used to talk about ongoing or habitual actions in the past. It can be translated as "was showering" or "used to shower".

The periphrastic future is formed with the present tense conjugation of the verb ir (to go), followed by the preposition a and the infinitive of the verb. The reflexive pronoun should be placed before the conjugated verb ir.

The present progressive tense is formed with the auxiliary verb estar (to be) and the present participle. To form the present participle for -ar verbs, use the ending -ando. The reflexive pronoun should be placed before the conjugated verb estar.

She is showering. Ella se está duchando después de correr. 

Ducharse Past Participle

Compound verbs like the present perfect are formed with the auxiliary verb haber and the past participle. To form the past participle of -ar verbs, use the ending -ado. Here, again, you should place the reflexive pronoun before the conjugated verb haber.

Present Perfect of Ducharse: se ha duchado

She has showered. -> Ella se ha duchado después de correr.

The present subjunctive deals with mood and is used in situations of doubt, desire, or emotion.

The imperfect subjunctive has two different forms. Both forms are correct, and are used by Spanish speakers in different parts of the world.

Ducharse Imperative 

In order to give commands or orders, you need the imperative mood. There are both affirmative and negative commands. In affirmative commands, the reflexive pronoun should be attached to the end of the verb, while in negative commands, the reflexive pronoun should be placed before the verb.
