Discussion of Earlham College's Admissions Standards: About a third of applicants to Earlham College will not receive an acceptance latter. Successful applicants will need solid grades to be admitted. SAT and ACT scores are far less important than grades because Earlham has test-optional admissions. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent students who won admission. Most had SAT scores of 1100 or higher, an ACT composite of 22 or higher, and a high school average of a "B+" or higher. You can see that many admitted students had grades in the "A" range. Note that there are a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue in the graph. Some students with grades and test scores that were on target for Earlham College were not admitted. You can also see that a few students were accepted with test scores and grades a bit below the norm. This is because Earlham College has holistic admissions and makes decisions based on more than numbers. Earlham College uses the Common Application, and the admissions folks will be looking for a strong application essay, meaningful extracurricular activities, and positive letters of recommendation. You can also strengthen your application by doing the optional writing supplement on the Common Application.
