Elko is a small town in Northeastern Nevada. If you are touring Nevada, the town is 290 miles from Reno along Interstate 80, a very easy and clear drive at most times. You’ll travel through other small towns like Battle Mountain, Winnemucca, and Lovelock during your trip. Don’t expect to see much else along the way but purple mountains, sage, and desert.

If you make it to Elko, you can continue on 80-East and turn onto US 93 to Jackpot, about 120 miles away, or continue towards Utah and you’ll be in Wendover just a few minutes faster.

Both towns have several new casinos and sit on the Nevada state line.

Elko itself has five casinos, three of which have reasonably-priced rooms available during most seasons. The Cowboy Poetry Festival in January may be an exception, when most rooms in town fill up. Each casino is easily found off US 80 E.

The property features an arcade, gift shop and swimming pool. In addition there are two bars and two restaurants: the Coffee Garden Restaurant and a buffet.

The casino is the largest in town with 350 slot and video poker machines including IGT’s Megabucks. There is a 4-table poker room, a sports book with horse-racing, and table games like blackjack Three-card-poker, roulette and craps.

Gold Dust West Elko

The Gold Dust West is located at 1660 Mountain City Highway (775) 777-7500. The property has two food outlets: The Grille and Dusty’s Lounge. The casino has 349 slot and video poker games including 89 penny slots and 222 multi-denomination and multi-game machines. There are also several dollar and five-dollar slots.

The casino features six table games: Three-card Poker, blackjack, and craps, and also has a sports book.

Elko is primarily a gold mining town with only enough local clientele for a small casino or two, but vehicle traffic and tourists help the casinos stay in business. In addition, Elko Regional Airport brings some business traffic into the area and charter flights bring players on junkets.
