Discussion of Elon's Admissions Standards:

About half of applicants to Elon University will get in, and successful students tend to have strong standardized test scores and high school grades. In the scattergram above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. You can see that the majority of admitted applicants had high school averages of "B+" or higher, combined SAT scores of 1100 or higher (RW+M), and ACT composite scores of 23 or better. Slightly higher grades and test scores significantly improve your chances of getting an acceptance letter.

Note that there are quite a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue in all but the upper right corner of the graph. Many students with grades and test scores that were on target for Elon were rejected. On the flip side, note that a few students were accepted with test scores and grades below the norm. This is because Elon's admissions process is holistic. The admissions folks will want to see that you have taken rigorous high school courses, not courses that get you an easy "A." Also, they will be looking for a winning essay, interesting extracurricular activities, and a strong guidance counselor evaluation. In general, the university is looking for students who will contribute to the campus community in meaningful ways.
