Francis Marion University Description:

Francis Marion University is a public university located on an attractive 400-acre campus in Florence, South Carolina. The campus features trails, forest, a pond, and an arboretum, and the great majority of buildings have been built or renovated in the past few decades. Students can choose from over 40 areas of study. The university's curriculum has a liberal arts focus, although professional fields such as business and nursing are most popular among undergraduates. At the graduate level, the education programs are most robust. The university serves a largely regional student body with 95% of students hailing from South Carolina. FMU prides itself on providing the kind of individual attention to students that is often absent at larger public universities. The school has a 15 to 1 student / faculty ratio and an average class size of 21. Student life is active and includes a fraternity and sorority system. On the athletic front, the FMU Patriots compete in the NCAA Division II Peach Belt Conference. The university fields six men's and six women's intercollegiate sports.
