Recapture your imagination in April 2018

Scorpio pulls us into mysterious depths with its treacherous and profound shadows. The dark has power and that makes it daunting, but it's also a promising night for deep change and renewal.

The Perilous Sea

When the full moon peaks in Scorpio, it's a time to come home to the power of the imagination that can shape your life. The outstanding aspect here is to Neptune, the planet of the imagination and higher callings.

The Scorpio moon peaks at 2 degrees and is in an enthralling trine to Neptune (in Pisces). It's a time of both being spellbound, but it will be one for breaking spells for some. The combination here conjures things like hypnotic trance, psychic vampirism and nightmares.

There are all kinds of hypnotic seductions vying for our attention, and there's a power here that wants to keep humanity in a state of fear in order to control everyone for their aims. But it's also a pairing to move beyond nightmares that are needlessly generated, to take the wheel, and to be captain of your own ship. This is a full moon that illuminates those holds on the psyche, and it offers an opportunity to dissolve them.

The Sun (Taurus) is shining in opposition, vitalizing what has promise and in sync with natural laws. We can find that organic rhythm and live closer to it when we're released from what binds us.

The spirit of big dramatic endings and beginnings is afoot, as well as a peak for cracking open hidden potentials and gifts – the power to create and be renewed again and again. Neptune's presence inspires going beyond the known and being open to miracles – changes of heart, mind and spirit.

Planets in Retrograde

The full moon was in Scorpio on May 10, 2017, and it next returns to Scorpio on Monday, April 30, 2018.

Keep in mind that four planets are in retrograde around this time, with Saturn and Pluto the closest: Jupiter (March 8), Saturn (April 17), Mars (March 8) and Pluto (April 22). Here are some points to ponder for each as they support recapturing the imagination and the power to imagine your life.

  • Jupiter in Virgo: Relearning to trust your body and its signals, being resourceful, and turning to what's wholesome and purifying.
  • Mars in Sagittarius: Where's the motivation? Only what's inspired, moral and true.
  • Saturn in Sagittarius: Restoring faith in the path itself, beyond hopelessness and with synchronicity as a guide.
  • Pluto in Capricorn: Re-rooting in what's enduring, timeless and in harmony with nature.

The Bubble Bursts

This can be a significant period where we get real and begin to build on truly solid psychic-emotional ground. If a bubble bursts and the picture looks dark, stay with it. The word withstand comes to mind. Disillusionment comes sometimes with Neptune, but that's just the start.

Look at where Neptune is transiting your houses for themes of "where your karma is coming back to you," as Marguerite Manning puts it. Another way to look at it is what's calling your soul because it has a meaning or haunts you in some way.

Many of us are discovering strength of character we didn't know we had. Keep your favorite inspirations close – music, movies, friends – with themes of overcoming against all odds.

The Bare Bones

Full moons are revelatory and Scorpio sees into the hidden bones and the underpinnings of things. It's one for seeing the energetic spine of an issue. It might be one that has a psychic hold whose roots take time and courage to dig out. If you're wrestling with an issue, ask for clear messages for your next right step in transforming it.

Earth energies show us how to keep it real by being awake to what's going on around us. Great gains are made now from being resourceful and prioritizing what's most important. These insights into the bones might call for extreme measures, but we can disengage from what's draining us with Scorpiocity.

By stripping away needless drama, we fortify ourselves for what's ahead.

Total Engagement

Scorpio's psychic-emotional power is both feared and respected. Releasing something at this full moon can feel daunting in some way, like it's final and there's no turning back. Scorpio is often called the all-or-nothing sign. But if you risk it and surrender, the rewards are big.

This full moon is tops for ritually marking a change. It's a sign of healing, but in the Plutonian sense – the kind that means facing demons, walking through fear and embracing the whole range of experience.

Grounded Mysticism

The Scorpio-Taurus axis is about going deep, physically merging with Earth or energetically/sexually merging with a lover. At the big reveal of the full moon, you'll see what you're enmeshed in. Is it healthy or is it a toxic wasteland? Can the negativity be transformed, or is it time to make a clean break?

Coming to Your Senses

This full moon emphasizes both kinds of roots: the psychic subterranean kind and those that come from being parked in one spot. It's timely for purging the excess and what takes you off your center. Scorpio's regenerative force helps you clear out the psyche and to come home to feeling good.

Talking about coming home, I'd like to point out that Taurus and Scorpio are fixed signs that seek security. Where is true security to be found in a time like ours? Wise Scorpio finds it by plumbing the depths and transforming again and again to stand on a sense of real integrity. Instead of checking out, we gain soul power by withstanding and being creative where we can in the face of adversity.

True confidence emerges when there's nothing to fear within or without.
