Cristiano Ronaldo Must Have Ticked Someone Off

Cristiano Ronaldo statue
Via The New Daily.

In 2017, Real Madrid football star (and handsome devil) Cristiano Ronaldo received the incredible honor of having his hometown airport in Madeira, Portugal renamed for him. As part of the renaming ceremony, a bronze bust created by artist Emanuel Santos was unveiled, and it was... startling.

As soon as the drape sheet came off the bust, photos captured Ronaldo, Portuguese president Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and Prime Minister Antonio Costa trying not to laugh at the goofy-looking statue. To say it looks nothing like Ronaldo isn't entirely accurate; it actually looks more like Ronaldo's much, much less intelligent and handsome cousin; a cousin who unfortunately didn't inherit the same genes as the famous soccer star.

This unintentionally funny statue makes Cristiano Ronaldo the latest celebrity to become a victim of being "honored" by a totally crappy sculpture. Take a look at some other famous folks whose artistic renderings turned out to be a big fat fail!

"Scary Lucy" Terrorizes New York Town

scary Lucy statue
Via NY Post.

Lucille Ball, the iconic redheaded star of I Love Lucy, hailed from a small town called Celoron, New York. In 2009, the city of Celoron decided to honor the legendary actress and comedian's memory by erecting a life sized statue of her. The sculpture was created by an artist who has since decided to be anonymous (gee, wonder why!), and it drew instant anger from area residents. People said the statue looked like lots of famously unattractive characters, from Conway Twitty, the snake from "Beetlejuice," and actor Steve Buscemi; but they all agreed it looked nothing like Lucy.

The outcry over "Scary Lucy" was so prolonged, the city eventually commissioned a new statue by a new artist, which was much better looking, and much better received.

Michael Jackson And His Creepy Monkey Friend

American artist Jeff Koons created this massive porcelain statue of Michael Jackson with his pet chimpanzee, Bubbles. After it was unveiled in 1988, the public agreed the statue was hideous and downright scary

Laugh all you want, though; the artist created three sculptures of Michael and Bubbles, and one of them sold for close to six million dollars. Turns out that beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.

Kate Moss Gets Pretzeled

There are several cool things about this statue of Kate Moss. For one, it's made entirely of 18 carat gold. Secondly, it is the largest gold statue made since ancient Egyptian times.

All of that is neat, but still... look at it. What did Kate do to deserve this kind of treatment? When she sat for artist Marc Quinn, did he happen to mention to her that he'd be putting her in a position that forces her to gaze at her own crotch for eternity? Something tells us Kate didn't sign on for that, just like she didn't sign on for this funny Photoshop fail

It's Britney, Bitch. Or Is It?

Britney Spears birth statue
Via CBS News.

Artist Daniel Edwards created this "Monument to Pro-Life: The Birth of Sean Preston" for Brooklyn's Capla Kesting Fine Art Gallery in 2006. The statue features very pregnant pop star Britney Spears giving birth to her first son with then-husband Kevin Federline, and what the f**k, right? How embarrassing!

Edwards, who admitted that he had never met or spoken to Spears, clearly decided to stir up some controversy using the likeness of one of the most famous celebrities alive. Wonder how Britney felt about this? It wasn't long after this sculpture was unveiled that Spears did the whole 'shaving her head and bashing a car with an umbrella' thing, so....

Kurt Cobain Channeling Jesus

Kurt Cobain statue

Artist Randi Hubbard made this sculpture of Kurt Cobain for Washington state's Aberdeen Museum of History in 2014. While this certainly isn't the worst statue on this list, it's definitely got a weird vibe about it. Kurt looks more like Jesus than Kurt, for one thing, and the statue is weeping. Ugh.

Oscar Wilde Would Have Thought This Was Hysterical

Oscar Wilde Statue
Via Time Out.

You can find Maggi Hambling's "‘A Conversation with Oscar Wilde" on Adelaide Street in London... but why would you want to?

The idea behind this hideous block of stone is that visitors can sit on the bench and chat with the long-dead scribe. All we know is that dear old witty Wilde would have probably seen the humor in this bizarre, coffin-like sculpture with a goofy-looking head protruding from the top! He was known for having a pretty decent sense of humor, after all.

It's Weird, But Is It David Bowie-Weird?

David Bowie statue
Via The Telegraph UK.

Uhhh, we're going with YES. This sculpture of a Ziggy Stardust era David Bowie was featured at experimental art studio Art 21 in Guadalajara, Mexico. Since it's David Bowie, the statue should be a little bit on the odd side... but was it really necessary to give him an animal body from the waist down?

Sad, Wrinkly Albert Einstein

Alert Einstein statue
Photo by Tyler Meuter Via Technique.

This is the third and final statue of sculptor Robert Berk’s bronze Einstein statue series. It resides on the campus of Georgia Tech, where it received a mixed response from students.

It's... nice, we guess? We had no idea that Einstein was this small, brown, and wrinkly. Our only question is how many students have seen this statue and mistakenly reported a homeless guy sitting in their fountain to campus security?

Elvis Presley High AF

Elvis Presley statue
Via freshdesignpedia.

This statue of Elvis Presley exists in Neve, Israel. It's no secret that the King had a teensy little drug problem in his later years, so maybe this artist was going for realism here? Why else would it look like Presley just blazed a big one in honor of 4/20?

Alfred Hitchcock

Alfred Hitchcock Head
Via thebritishstudiotour.wordpress.com.

Last but certainly not least, take a look at Alfred Hitchcock's gigantic head. Seriously, this thing is so big there's an office building inside the ramp behind it!

This bizarre baby head sculpture can be found in London near Gainsborough Studios, where Hitch made some of his early silent movies.

Even the best statues can be funny when you add goofy tourists to the mix. Check out 40 Hilarious Pics Of People Posing With Statues for more artistic fun!
