Since it was established in 1885, George Fox University has remained true to the ideals of its evangelical Quaker founders. All faculty and staff are committed Christians, and the curriculum focuses on both the academic and the spiritual. Undergraduates at George Fox can choose from over 40 majors, with business being most popular. Academics are supported by a healthy 13 to 1 student / faculty ratio and an average class size of 20. The college prides itself on the personal attention students receive and makes the promise that "each student will be known." GFU has a number of clubs and organizations students can join, ranging from the academic, to the athletic, to the social and cultural. Students can also join the band, choir, or theatre program. The university is located in Newberg, Oregon, a town about a half hour southwest of downtown Portland. In athletics, the George Fox Bruin's compete in the NCAA Division III Northwest Conference for most sports. The college fields 15 varsity sports.
