Welcome to Verse of the Day!

Today's Bible Verse:

Romans 6:13
Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God. (NLT)

Today's Inspiring Thought: Give Yourself to God

"Unless there is in us that which is above us, we shall soon yield to that which is about us." -- Peter Taylor Forsyth

Consider this question: Is every part of your body being used as an instrument for the glory of God?

Paul said in Romans 12:1, "And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him."

To keep from yielding to the natural desires of the flesh that are all around us and perpetually tempting us, we must present every part of ourselves—body, soul, mind, and spirit—to God, and allow him to fill us with new life from his Holy Spirit.

God wants you. He wants your life--all of you. If you're not sure what it means or how it looks in a practical sense to give yourself totally to God, here are some questions to ask yourself:

  • How do I spend my time?
  • How much time do I spend serving God and others versus serving myself?
  • How much time do I spend with God?
  • How do I spend my energy?
  • Do I expend more energy on sporting events, shopping, working, or enjoying hobbies than I do in worship?
  • Where do my affections lie?
  • Is God number one in my heart?
  • How do I spend my money?
  • Am I honoring God with my money?
  • How much am I investing in God’s kingdom?
  • Where do I place my allegiance?
  • To what or whom am I most dedicated, committed, and loyal?
  • Does God receive my highest allegiance?

I came up with those questions while reading a book about worship called The Air I Breathe: Worship as a Way of Life by Louie Giglio [Buy The Air I Breathe on Amazon]. To discover what or whom we worship above all else, Giglio suggests,

"You simply follow the trail of your time, your affection, your energy, your money, and your allegiance. At the end of the trail you’ll find a throne; and whatever, or whomever, is on that throne is what's of highest value to you. On that throne is what you worship."

Are you and your own desires on that throne, or is God? There’s nothing wrong with enjoying all the blessings of this life. These are all gifts from God. But it's important not to let these gift from God take the place of God on his throne. He must stay above everything else in our lives. This is how we give ourselves wholly to God.
