nidifugous

The term nidifugous refers to young birds that leave the nest soon after hatching. Nidifugous young are also described as precocial.

orbital ring

In birds, an orbital ring is a flesh area around the eye. In some bird species, the orbital ring is a different or contrasting colored.

partial molt

The term partial molt refers to a type of molt in which the replacement of feathers occurs in only some, but not all, feather tracts.

The term pectinate refers to having tooth-like projections that are similar to the teeth of a comb. Such projections are found on the toes of grouse and on the middle claw of some birds such as the barn owl.
