GRE Vocab Challenge by The Princeton Review

The Princeton Review. The Princeton Review

Maker: Modality, Inc.
Use With: iPhone or iPod Touch
User Ranking: 4/5 stars
Price: $4.99 at press time

  • 250 of the most common GRE words, as identified by the test makers at the Princeton Review
  • Four different types of games where you can test yourself on a word's positive or negative connotations, definition, synonyms, and antonyms
  • Tracked performance, so you'll know which words you've learned and which you still need to practice

Why Buy? The Princeton Review typically does everything right. If you're purchasing an app with their name on it, you can pretty much rest assured that you'll get a great design, flawless test questions, and helpful test prep. Plus, since the app is set up like a game, it's easy to just pop it when you're waiting in line or having lunch for a quick vocab review instead of getting onto Facebook or Pinterest or playing a game.

Maker: NKO Ventures, LLC.
Use With: iPad and iPhone
User Ranking: 4/5 stars
Price: $9.99 at press time

  • 184 GRE questions designed by Manhattan Prep
  • Access to 10,000 GRE flashcards
  • Filter by questions you haven't answered, questions you took longer than 1 minute to answer, etc. so you can review the questions that stumped you the most.
  • An interactive interface so you can calculate answers and make notes.
  • Statistics for the questions you've missed so you know exactly the skills you're still missing.

Why Buy? Manhattan Prep typically puts out good test prep. I can't imagine them allowing their name to go on an inferior product! The GMAT Toolkit and LSAT Toolkits have been favorably reviewed, so although the number of reviews is currently small (just 3 at press time), I'm expecting the reviews to be similarly high.

GRE Math Prep - Your Teacher

AE Pictures, Inc.

Use With: iPad and iPhone
User Ranking: 4.5/5 stars
Price: $9.99 at press time

  • Multiple video lessons of every math concept you'll need to know on the GRE
  • Interactive practice problems with support already built-in to the app (kinda like raising your hand in class)
  • Multiple choice Quantitative tests, where you can prove your efficiency with the math concept you just learned
  • Extra "worksheets" like what you'd receive for homework

Why Buy? This appears to be self-contained math preparation material for the GRE, which is tough to find. Some apps will supply videos while others supply practice questions. This one gives the user both! With loads of practice problems and 24 mostly 4-5 star reviews, this looks like a winner, and at $9.99, it's a no-brainer.
