'The Greatest Game Ever Played': What's It About?

In the early 20th century, the sport of golf was dominated by British golfers, and had yet to take a firm hold among the general population of the United States. The game was viewed as elitist, a game for the wealthy and well-to-do.

At the 1913 U.S. Open, British greats Harry Vardon and Ted Ray entered, and were the favorites to win. But another of the entrants was 20-year-old American amateur Francis Ouimet, who had worked as a caddie at the golf course where the tournament was being played. And for his own caddie, Ouimet employed a 10-year-old boy. The Greatest Game Ever Played tells the story of Ouimet's journey at the 1913 U.S. Open, a journey that ended with a playoff victory that changed the face of golf.
