Discussion of Grove City College's Admissions Standards:

Grove City College is a selective Christian liberal arts college located in Western Pennsylvania. Don't be misled by GCC's relatively high acceptance rate (81% in 2016) -- applicants tend to be strong students with grades and standardized test scores that are well above average. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. As you can see, the majority of admitted students had high school averages up in the "A" range, combined SAT scores of 1200 or higher (RW+M), and ACT composite scores of 26 or better.

In the middle of the graph, you'll notice quite a few yellow dots (waitlisted students) and red dots (rejected students) mixed in with the green and blue. Many students with grades and test scores that were on target for Grove City were not admitted. At the same time, note that some students were accepted with standardized test scores and grades that were a bit below the norm. This is because Grove City has holistic admissions. The admissions folks will be looking at the rigor of your high school courses, not just your grades. Also, the GCC application devotes significant space to your extracurricular activities, and you will need to write two application essays as well as a couple short answers. Also important for admission are your letters of recommendation, and the college "highly recommends" that applicants do an optional interview. The second of Grove City's essays is a great place to demonstrate interest in the college, for it asks you to respond to the school's mission statement and your reasons for wanting to attend.
