High-Paying Jobs With an Online Degree

Online degrees are becoming increasingly sophisticated and popular. In many fields, it’s possible to make more than $100,000 a year with an online degree and on-the-job training. Some of the highest-paying occupations—such as medicine and law—require in-person training. However, quite a few high-paying jobs are available to workers with online degrees. Take a look at these high-paying jobs as noted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and see if any of them is right for you. If you choose to pursue an online degree, make sure the program is accredited.

Computer and Information Systems Manager

Technology specialists oversee companies’ complex computer systems. They plan and direct computer-related activities in an organization and implement computer systems to meet company goals. Look for an online bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or Management Information Systems and plan to spend a few years in on-the-job training. Many companies require their IT managers to have an advanced degree. An MBA (Master of Business Administration) is suitable for this position and available online.

Marketing Manager

A marketing manager handles the marketing strategy for an entire company or takes charge of individual projects for a large marketing firm. Many advertising managers work for ad agencies, where they plan projects to generate interest for their clients' products or services. A bachelor's degree is required in most cases. Look for online degrees in business, communications, journalism, or marketing.

Air Traffic Controller

Entry-level air traffic controller jobs are available to college graduates with an associate degree or bachelor's degree. Long-term on-the-job training is provided by the hiring institution. Look for online degrees in any subject leading to a terminal 4-year B.A. or B.S. degree or choose an online Air Traffic Controller program or Aviation Management program that is approved by the FAA.

Financial Manager

Financial managers are math whizzes who oversee the financial accounts of corporations and individuals. They provide advice on investment strategies and money management and plan to meet the long-term financial goals of the company. Look for online degrees in finance, accounting, economics, mathematics or business administration. Some employers prefer a master's degree in finance, business administration, or economics.

Sales Manager

These quick-thinkers find ways to improve their employer’s income while managing a team of sales representatives. Most sales managers set sales goals, develop training programs, and analyze sales data. Look for an online bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or business and expect to spend time as a sales representative before moving to the manager's position.

Chief Executive

No one becomes a chief executive overnight, but many of these corporate leaders work their way to the top by creating a track record of smart decisions and problem-solving. An online bachelor's degree in business or economics gives you the entry-level business skills that can lead to success as an executive.

Project Manager

Project managers plan and coordinate team members involved in projects to benefit their companies. Usually, expertise in a specific field—such as construction, business, or computer information—and strong academic credentials in management are necessary for this position. To become a senior project manager, look for an online master's degree in project management.

Human Resources Manager

A career in human resources management requires skills in directing the overall administration of an organization including hiring, recruiting, mediating and training. Experience in this field is necessary before advancement to a management position. Strong interpersonal skills are a requirement. Although a bachelor's degree is sufficient for many positions, some jobs require a master's degree. Look for an online bachelor's degree in human resources with courses on conflict management. For some high-level positions, a master's degree in labor relations, business administration, or human resources is necessary.
