Discussion of Hofstra's Admissions Standards:

Roughly 40% of applicants to Hofstra University will not be admitted, and successful applicants will need grades and standardized test scores that are at least a little above average. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. Most admitted students had a high school average of "B" or better, a combined SAT score of 1050 or higher (RW+M), and an ACT composite score of 23 or higher. Higher grades and scores improve your chance of receiving an acceptance letter.

Note that there are some red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) hidden behind the green and blue throughout the graph. Some students with grades and test scores that were on target for Hofstra were not admitted. On the flip side, some students were accepted with test scores and grades a bit below the norm. This is because admission to Hofstra is based on much more than empirical data. Whether you use the Hofstra online application or the Common Application, you will be evaluated holistically. Hofstra takes into consideration the rigor of your high school courses, your application essay, extracurricular activities, and letters of recommendation.
