Discussion of Hope College's Admissions Standards: Applicants who are admitted to Hope College tend to have solid grades and standardized test scores. Over a quarter of all applicants do not get in. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent students who won admission. Most had SAT scores (RW+M) of 1050 or higher, an ACT composite of 21 or higher, and a high school average of a "B" or higher. The majority of successful applicants had grades up in the "A" range. Note that there are a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue throughout the graph. Some students with grades and test scores that were on target for Hope College did not get get in. Note also that some students were accepted with test scores and grades a bit below the norm. This is because Hope College has holistic admissions and evaluates the whole applicant, not just numerical data. Hope College uses the Common Application, and the admissions folks will be looking for a strong application essay, meaningful extracurricular activities, and positive letters of recommendation. And as with most colleges, Hope College takes into consideration the rigor of your high school courses, not just your grades. Success in AP, IB and Honors classes can all strengthen your application.
