Houghton College Description:

Houghton College is a four-year, private college located in Houghton, NY, in that state's Southern Tier. Founded in 1883 as a seminary, Houghton is affiliated with the Wesleyan Church. While titled as a "college," Houghton offers a few graduate degrees--students can earn an MA or an MMA in Music, for example. For undergraduates, Houghton offers a range of degrees, including Theology, Psychology, Biology, English, History, and much more. First-year students have the opportunity to apply for an honors program; there are three distinct programs that provide a variety of travel and learning experiences. Students can study in London for a semester, develop a science-based research project, or study politics and history by exploring the Mediterranean. Houghton also hosts a range of extracurricular activies, with over 15 clubs and organizations. In athletics, the Houghton Highlanders compete in the NCAA Division III Empire 8 conference. The college fields 16 teams, including soccer, basketball, track, lacrosse, and tennis.
